TEAM FOR ENGLAND
WELLINGTON v. MINOR. ASSOCIATIONS.
The first eliminating match, to sort out the team for England, was begun to-day, when Wellington met the Minor Associations’ team. No representatives from Taranaki are playing, and the Wellington team is considerably altered from that which played last week. THE TEAMS. MINOR ASSOCIATIONS v WELLINGTON.
PROGRESS OF PLAY
WELLINGTON, Dec. 21. The match between the Minor Associations and Wellington commenced this morning. The New Zealand selectors are watching the play. Lowry won the toss and saint Wellington in. Baker and. Tattersall both went chiefly to Going. Christopherson and Hutchings were then associated in a spirited partnership, and both reached half a century before being dismissed. The scores' at the luncheon adjournment were : Baker, c Gallichan, b Going 3 Tattersall, b Going . Ji Hutchings, 1.b.w., b Going -53 Christopherson, c Going, b Robertson 51 Airey not out 30 Extras 7 Total, for four wickets 147 PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. WELLINGTON TEAM TO MEET OTAGO. Air K. H. Tucker, sole selector, has chosen the following team to represent Wellington against Otago in the match for the Phmket Shield, commencing at the Basin Reserve on Christmas Day: W. S. Brice, captain (Petone), J. S. Huddleston (Wellington), H. AT. MeGirr (Hutt), K. C. James (Od Boys), T. C. Lowry (Hawke’s Bay), R. do R. Worker (Hawke’s Bay), C. S. Dempster (Wanganui), F. T. Badcock (Kilhirnie), B. J. Tvortlang (Thorndon). A. M. HolHngs (Universitvl. M. Henderson. (Y.M. C. and H. M. Lambert (Old Boys). The team is the strongest batting combination which has been sooctecl to represent Wellington for some years oast (says the Dominion!, but the bowling and fielding leave a «nod deal to be desired. With the exception of Dempster. Badcock. Hollings and Lambert, the team will be very slow in moving in the field, and some interesting developments will ensue if Otago wins the toss and holds .possession of the wickets for a day ancl a half.
