PETROL EXPLODES.
TRAGEDY AT SUMNER. YOUNG WOMAN KILLED. (BY TUIjKQRAPH PKKBB ASSOCIATION .} CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 15. One young woman is dead, and another is seriously injured as the result of an explosion of petrol fumes at Sumner yesterday. The dead gi*l is Miss Hilda Heinzmian, aged 26. Miss Rata Bowden, aged 26, is suffering from severe shock and severe burns on the hands and body. Miss Kathleen Bowden, aged 20, was slightly burned about the head. Miss Rata Bowden was cleaning an evening dress with petrol in the kitchen and Miss Heinzman had just lit the gas iron when a sheet of flame swept the kitchen. Though herself badly burned. Miss Bowden, aided by her sister, rolled Miss Heinzman in a mat in a plucky effort to extinguish the flames.
