ARBITRATION COURT.
AWARD FOR DRIVERS WANTED. (BY TKI-EGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.' WELLINGTON, Dec. 14. The conditions under which drivers of horse-driven vehicles are expected to work were reviewed before tbe Court of Arbitration, when an application was made by the New Zealand Federation of Drivers and Related Trades for a Dominion award to cover general drivers. Mr Hiram Hunter represented the federation, and Mr B. L. Hammond the employers. Mr W. J. Rogers appeared in support of an appeal from the refusal of the Registrar of Industrial Unions to extend the membership title of the Wanganui Municipal Labourers’ Union to include motor, horse, tractor and grader drivers. He asked the court that the drivers of the Wanganui City Council should be exempted from the scope of the Dominion award. Mr Hammond stated that the Wanganui City Council desired to remain under the provisions governing general driver.!. His Honor Mr Justice Frazer, after consideration with other members of tire eourt, decided that this matter should be heard at Wanganui, where all the parties concerned would be available. In the meantime he thought the best course to pursue would be to leave the Wanganui City Council under the general drivers’ award, the court reserving the right to strike it out if the appeal was upheld. It was announced by Mr Hunter that complete agreement had been reached in so far as service ear drivers were concerned, which included taxis, omnibuses on city and suburban runs, and through service cars. This agreement was confirmed by; the court.
