HIGH SPEEDS.

SERVICE CARS CRITICISED. (By Teiegraph.—Special to The Star.) WELLINGTON, Dec, 14. Wellington motorists, through their organisation, axe taking action to secure more reasonable speeds on the part of some service car drivers, who are reported to be easily exceeding .railway pace. Owners of service- cars, local bodies, and the Public Works Department sue to be written to on the subject. The chairman of the Automobile Club (Mr. F. W. Manton) remarked that the way that some of the drivers of service cars negotiated bends between Wellington and Palmerston North created a danger, not only to themselves, but other users of the highway. A friend of his who had travelled in service cars between Levin and Waikanae a few days ago told him that the distance, of about 22 miles, had been covered in 25 minutes, and that he never felt so thankful as when he alighted safely at the journey’s end. The need for prompt action was stressed by another member, who pointed out that next week large numbers of private cars would be using the highways, and, with service cars travelling at high speeds, accidents were likely to occur.
