The dispute iat- the State Electricity Commission’s works at YaMourn, is not yet .-settled, and unless it ends next week the metropolitan area will suffer from a shortage erf electric current, which will result in much unemployment and distress. “NO' OVERTIME” STRIKE. NEGOTIATIONS FOR SETTLEMENT BEGUN. Received noon to-day. MELBOURNE, Dec. 13. It Is understood that preliminary negotiations have been begun with a view to effecting <a settlement of all watersiders’ “no overtime” strike by members of the Wnte-raiders’ Federation. Suggestions have been formulated for submission to the owner® and tbe view is expressed that there-,is every likelihood of t-liese being accepted. Arrangements will probably be made today for a- conference of the parties The suggestion made is thatthe ownera should tentatively agree to overtime rates, pending the Arbitration Court’s finally determining the claims of the federation for payment -at a rate and a half between eight o’clock and midnight and donble time between midnight and eight o’clock in the morning.
