In the Dulwich Hill tragedy, in which Dr. Paling and his mother were both found dead, later details show that in Mrs. Palings arm Were found two broken needles, showing that acid had been injected. It is supposed that Dr. Paling took some of the same poison. Mrs. Paling was an invalid, and the doctor was suffering from depression. It is recalled that on Saturday he told friends that things would have to come to an end. He was unmarried, and had a distinguished university career.
