RUGBY LEAGUE.
VISITORS AGAIN DEFEATED. WIGAN’S EASY WIN. UY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT. LONDON, Dec. 11. Eight thousand spectators saw Wigan inflict on the New Zealand League team one of its heaviest defeats, when, after a keen, fast game, the visitors were beaten by 36 points to 15. There were only two points difference at the interval, but the tourists were handicapped in the second half, after Avery had regained the lead for them, by Gregory retiring owing to a twisted knee and Kirwan going off because of injuries to his head, neither of whom returned. The game opened, sensationally, two tries being scored in the first four minutes. Herring drew first blood for the New Zealanders after some brilliant play by Davidson and Brown. Wigan replied immediately when Ring ran strongly and passed to Abrams, who scored. Brown added another try for the visitors, after which Ring equalised with a score for the home team. Then Parker received the leather from the South African Booysen and scored a try, giving Wigan a lead. Davidson for New Zealand and Ring for Wigan then scored tries. Even play followed until Webb took a good pass from Davidson, beat the Wigan defence and again crossed the line. , . , Up tiff then no try had been converted, and the first goal was scored when Sullivan landed a penalty. At the interval the score was: Wigan 14, New Zealand 12. Avery immediately gave the New Zealanders a lead on resuming, but Parker soon re-established the home team’s lead with a try. Then Wigan went right away, Sullivan Owens and Price scoring two tries each, of which Sullivan converted two. The New Zealand team was: Gregory, Brown, Davidson, Kirwan, Gardiner, Brisbane, Webb, Henry, Carroll, Singe, Herring. Peterson, Avery.
