ACTOR- OBTAINS A DECREE. STRANGE STORY UNFOLDED. LONDON, Dec. 1. Eric lon Swinley, a prominent Shakespearean actor, who cited another actor, Franklvn Dyall, ag co-respon-dent, was granted a divorce to-day from Ms wife, whose stage name is Mary Merra'l. Swinley gave evidence that he had vainly attempted to get back his wife after his return from the war, which had affected his health. A lady then took care of him while he was acting at the Savov Theatre, a-nd he lived with her for two years. She subsequently was happily married, and he now was. anxious to marry another. Some time ago Mrs Swinley was granted a divorce, but the decree was rescinded iu April last on the intervention of the King’s Proctor, who pointed out that the -case had_ been heard at Nor with to avoid publcity. The petitioned had not mentioned her association with the -stage, and had described her husband by the one Obristion name of Eric, where a* he was widely known as lon Swinley. Further, die had concealed the fact that for six years previously slie had been living with Dyall.
