ENGLISH SPEAKING UNION.
ADDRESS AT ROTARY CLUB. Airs de Castro honorary commissioner of the Engiisli Bpeakmg Union ot London, auureused the Hawera Rotary Club at noon to-day on the aims ami objects of the union. Lord Bailout’ is the president of the British branch. Mrs de Castro read the following letter addressed to her by Lord Baltoun “Dear Airs de Castro, —I hear you aie engaged in extending the English Speaking Union in Australia and New Zea’aiKl. 'May I wish you all success? Mutual sympathy and knowledge and the personal services which form their fitting accompaniment are tlie very life blood of the Empire; and an organisation like the English-Speak-ing Union promotes them may perform invaluable work to men of our speech and race throughout the world. Yours trulv, Balfour.” Airs de Castro was in Egypt during the early days of the war. She directed a big soldiers’ club in Ezbekiah Gardens Claori, and later went to Lsmaih.a with the first canteen. The address to the Rotary Club on the aims and-ob-jects of the union was listened to with attention, and Airs de Castro was accorded a hearty vote of thanks by the nssemb'ed Rotarians.
