Itussell is busily preparing for what promises to be a record season, both as regards the number of visiting deepsea fishermen and the big fish themselves. Everywhere launches are being overhauled and made ready for the fray. The new fishing camp at Urupukapuka Island, Zane Grey s headquarters last season, is rapidly nearing completion, and at the present time eight neat little cottages of two and three rooms ,and a fine roomy pavilion, containing a dining-room and comfortable lounge, furnished in modern, style, with a wide verandah overlooking the bay, are just ready for occupation. Good wharf accommodation has been provided and three new launches, specially equipped, already form the nucleus of a modern fleet of deep-sea hunters of big game. Zane Grey’s fine schooner-yacht, the Fisherman, is expected iai> the Bay of Islands at any time now, and a number of famous anglers have already booked launches and accommodation at Russell, A recent launch cruise round the bay revealed large numbers of “school” fish, principally kahawai, while many kingfish and trevalli were also seen. Great interest is being displayed in the projected visit of His Roval Highness the Duke of York, in H.M.S. Renown, as it is felt that the presence of such a distinguished visitor will add fresh lustre to the sport-.
