The friends of Mr and Mrs Walter Parker, of Ararata, will regret to learn of the death of their infant daughter Phyllis, who had suffered a long illness.
Mr. P. H. Hartla-nd. district traffic manager of railways, who has been on a. short visit to Stratford and Hawera, returned to Wanganui this morning. During his stay in. Hawera, Mr. Hiartlamd met fa deputation representing the Egmont Racing CSulb, the Hawera Trotting Club, the Egmont A. and P. 1 Association and the local carriers and discussed the possible provision of improvements for loading race horses and show -stock. It is understood that, as a, result, Mr. Bartl-a-nd is. to recommend the provision of a.n extra siding at the Hawera. yards. At a largely attended meeting of the Normanby branch of the W.C.T.U., held at the residence of Mrs Bevan on Wednesday afternoon, reference to the death of the president, Mrs Scott, was made and a motion of sympathy with Mr Scott was passed in silence. Mrs Scott, who had been a member of the branch since its inauguration, and who had been president for the past thirteen years', had always taken an active interest in the work of the branch.
