TENNIS.
WAIOKURA TOURNEY. On Wednesday, at Waiokura, an interesting tennis tournament was held by the \\ aiokura Club. The weather was erratic, hut the iiual.s were j-eachecl hero re ram set in. ’ There was a. aeries of very interesting and close games, in which all players showed much enthusiasm and an eagerness to acquire the best points of the game, the winner being 'I. Ivururaiigi and the .runner-up U. Aiatoe, a young player of Okaiawa. The tournament was intended by the committee to be men’s and ,ladies' handicap singles, but as in the latter competition only a very small number of players came forward, the management committee decided to put off this event.
.There were several visiting players present, a .large number coming from •Jkaia wa under the leadership of Messrs Jackson and Dose Aiatoe, and thus showed tlie interest taken by that club, t here were also a number ot spectators, among whom were a fair number of the ciders of the hapus around Alauaia and district, All were entertained by the ladies’ committee to an excellent luncheon and again at afternoon tea. A speech of welcome was made b.v the president (Whare Rei). expressing the pleasure ielt by the club at. seeing so many present iuid such keen enthusiasm displayecl. Dose Aiatoe, captain of tlie Okaiawa Club, briefly returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. Alter an exchange of cheers, and a hearty one lot the ladies, who had a busy day in tlie kitchen, the day concluded, all having -spent a thoroughly good time. Aiatoe (rec. 8) won from Paul (scr.), 20—19; Hoke (rec. 5) won from Bangi Rei (rec. 3), 20 —17; live (rec. 9), a bye; Ngait (rec. 2) won ft on!
