FIRE.
OUTBREAK IN TRAINING STABLE. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, Nov. 14. Shortly after nine o’clock on Saturday night a fire broke out in the training stable of Mr A. E. Butterworth at Te Harapa, a suburb of Gisborne. When the brigade arrived, one stable, containing an Our King—Golconda filly, named Strata, owned by Mr J. S. Kirkpatrick, was a mass of flames and the horse was burnt to death. The flames spread rapidly to the next box, containing a three-year-old colt named Lee Fong, by Autumn, and owned by Mr A. Frqscr. This colt was so badly burned that it had to be destroyed. The flames then spread to the chaffliouse, which was badly damaged. O.n the other side of the chaff-house were three stables containing the racehorses Scotch Mixture, Ratiata and Superb King. Willing helpers mshed in and opened the doors as soon as the flames were first seen, and these three horses escaped, though Scotch Mixture was somewhat knocked about. Particulars regarding the insurances are not available.
