The Hawera Star.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 1926. THE ROYAL TOUR.

Delivered every evening by D o’clock in Hawera, Maiiaia, Normaiiby. Okaiuwa, Eltham, Mangatoki. Kaponga, Alton, Hurleyville, Patea, Waverlcy Mokoia, VVliakamara. Obangai, Mere mere. 1- raeer Road and Ararata

Unlike many overseas visitors, who touch our shores, pause momentarily, and then depart to say that they have seen New Zealand, the Duke and Duchess of York, when they come amongst us next year, are to make a reasonably extended tour, following an itinerary which will be wholly impartial in its attentions. The twentyeight days in the Dominion will be packed with appointments, and no doubt the Royal couple will welcome the end of their New Zealand programme; yet that has been drawn up with some consideration for the visitors, and, although the scheduled recreation —fishing at Russell and Taupo —is all included in the first week, there is promised thereafter a pleasing variety of sight-seeing and ceremonial, with several opportunities for rest. Taranaki’s glimpse of the Duke and Duchess will be a fleeting one; but a public reception at New Plymouth, with short stops at Stratford and Hawera on the way south, is a fair allowance of the Royal time, and ample to enable the people to extend their share of that greeting which was assured from the whole of New Zealand the moment his Majesty accepted the invitation for his son and daughter-in-law to come to the country. The visit of the Prince of Wales is still fresh in the minds of most of us, and the enthusiasm of the. reception accorded him supplies a guarantee —if one were needed —of the welcome that awaits his brother. Indeed, it may 'be that New Zealand’s loyalty and hospitality will be even more notable on this occasion. for the Duke, in addition to all the charm of manner of the Prince, brings with him the Duchess. That the two will win a high place in the heart of the Dominion goes almost without saying, for. wholly apart from their position and the significance of their visit, they are known to ibe as natural and likeable a pair as any in the English land.
