.SHIELD MATCH. MAN ALA BEAT HA AYER A B. Hawera. travelled to Maiipiu, and were beaten by 11 points in an interesting match. " The weather was ideal, and the players enjoyed the afternoon. WeVoming the Hawera team, Mr J. Hickey, president of the Manaia Club, wished everybody' an interesting time. At the close of the match, cordial thanks was expressed, hv Mr J. Foy to the Manaia Club for its hospitality. He added that Hawera always enjoyed the visit to Manaia, and the beating they had received! did not detract from the pleasure felt at meeting the Manaia "bowers. Hearty cheers were given by Hawera for the Manaia team, and by all present for the ladies who supplied afternoon tea. The scores were as below, Manaia being mentioned first in each ease: Meuli, Innes, Johnson, McDonald 22 v Watts, Familton. Winks, R. Hicks 20: Toroa, Butler, Hotter, H. Christie 20 v. F. Old, Fv. Dillon, Morpeth, L. ,T. Bull 22: Smith, Ward, Davies, J. Christie- 26 v? -Toll, Hobbs, Masliu, M. J. Squire 21; Hickey. Frank’jn, Ainslev, Andrews 25 v. McDonald, J. Syme, Potter, J. Foy If). Totals.: Manaia, 93; Hawera, 82. At the request of the Manaia. Club, an extra rink travelled with the shield players and defeated the Manaia payers by six points. The results, with Hawera players mentioned first, are: Saunders. H. Old, E. J. Squire, J. Champion 22 v. Holmes, Aleldon, Massey, Sutton 16. PARK CLUB. BUTTONS COMPETITION. A buttons competition match was played on the Park Club’s green on Saturday. and resulted as follows: — Mahoney. Dillon, Crutch, Butler 27 V. Sayers, Murdoch, Yillars, Grant (s) 24. IN NORTH TARANAKI. Pari tutu, playing on its own green, secured its first win in the. shield matches. Its score against Vogeltown was 146 to 129. West End defeated New Plymouth hv 33 points; and Fit 7.rov won at Wnitara hv 177 points to 146.
