RIFLE SHOOTING.
CADET SHOOTING. Throughout New Zealand teams of ten cadets, under 16 years of age, and representing the various companies, have just completed the shooting for the Weekly Press challenge shields, which are allotted, one to each island. The local town company of cadets fired yesterday and registered a very creditable .score, as follows:
Team average: 63.9, out of 68. The possible points were; Application 28, rapid 40, total 68.
ALL TARANAKI FIXTURE
The No. 8 (Taranaki) Regimental district rifle meeting will be held at New Plymouth, on Saturday, February 5, and Saturday, February 12, 1927. The rifle meeting is an annual one, for which entries are received from all over Taranaki. The prize money ’s .riven bv the Defence Department, and it is sufficient to provide Inducement to the best shots to> compete. The programme is a, comprehensive one. and includes matches for cadets and territorials in rifle shooting, and Lewis, Hotchkiss, and Vickers machine gunThere are in all 13 matches, a* follows : Territorials. —No. 1, 200 yards application.; No. 2A. 300 yards rapid; No. 28, 300 yaids snap .shooting; No. 3, 600 yards deliberate; No. 4, 600 yards to 100yds, fire with movement ; No. 5, teams match, 300 vards rapid, open to squadron and company teams, each of eight men ; No. 6. Yorkers’ gun ; No 7 Lewis gun; No. 8, Hotchkiss, gun. Cadets: No. 9A. 25 vavds application ; No. 98, 25 yards snap shooting; No. 10, 25 yards rapid; No. 11 A. 2(a) yards application ; No. 118, 200 yards snap shooting; No. L2, 200 yards rapid; No. 13, 200‘ yards rapid teams’ matey. ,open to cadet company teams, each of eight men. v . There is also the No. 8 (Taranaki'i Regimental district territorial aggregate, which carries a special onze li.-t. The winner will hold the .shield orerented by the officers of the Taranaki regiment. There is. furthermore, the No. 8 (Taranaki) Regimental district radet championship, nrovided with a eoarate prize list. The winner will hold the Newton King and A. Alexander Cup.
