HAWERA COURT.
—* CIVIL CLAIMS HEARD. TO-DAY’S SITTING. The fortnightly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Hawera opened this morning, Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., presiding. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in each of the following undefended civil cases: — Taranaki Trades Association, Ltd. v. Percy Shaw, £4 5s (costs £1 5s 6d); same v. N. T. Dunlop, £l7 10s (£3 6s); Clement and Sons v. J. Rogers, £1 Is 6d (8s); E. J. Lane v. H. Murdock, £1 15s (8s); same v. James Whanau, £2 5s (£1 16s 6d); E. G. Neilson v. Maria Tamarapa, £4 11s (£1 17s); A, J. Geary and Co. v. L. Locker, 14s 9d (8s); J. W. Yearbury v. H. Kelson, £1 4s (8s); Edgar Penfold v. F. Fitzsimmons, £lB 10s 9d (£2 14s); same v. Peter Luke, £22 6s 4d (£4 15s 6d); C. R. Davies v. Wilfred Sutton, £l9 9s 6d (£2 14s). On judgment summons proceedings Matui was ordered to pay £8 10s 6d, and 15s 6d costs, to J. Kerrisk, in default- 10 days’ imprisonment; Hawe Pateri was ordered to pay £8 11s 3d, and 15s 6d costs, to J. M. Townsend, in default 10 days’ imprisonment; A. C. McDonnell was ordered to pay £9 ss, and 15s 6d costs, to C. Gower, in default 11 days; Pokau, who was examined by Mr G. .T. Bayley, was ordered to pay £5 4s 6d, and £1 6s costs, to J. Huston, in default 7 days. AN UNUSUAL NONSUIT.
When the' adjourned case, in which Rlaikiao and Taukirangi (two natives of KLaupokonui) proceeded against their half-'brother, Jimmy Robertson —forjthe recovery of sutns: of £lO 12s and £ls os 7d respectively— was called Mr o’Rea, counsel for-plaintiff, said that a cheque, alleged to hare been given' to Robertson for transfer to plaintiffs, had not been cashed, and could not he procured. He applied for a nonsuit. A nonsuit- was granted, costs amount mgs to £2_2s in each ease being allowed defendant-.
