ARMISTICE DAY.
OBSERVATIONS IN 1920. At to-day’s mooting of fclie Hawera County Council the following circular was received from- the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, in reference to Armistice Day, November 11, 1926:—“I have the honour to inform you that His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral has -received the following cablegram from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs: “ ‘His Majesty has -approved of -arrangemeats for observance in this country of Armistice Day, November 11, on the same lines as last year, namely: “ ‘(I) Short service will be held at the cenotaph on the lines adopted in previous years, including the hymn “O God Our Help in Ages Past.” His Majesty the King will be present and will lay a wreath. “ ‘(2) Two minutes silence will be observed at 11 a.m. Local authorities in this country will be asked to arrange -for suspension of all vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m., but rail and water transport will not he suspended. “In accordance with His Majesty’s th© King’s wish, I should be glad if you will kindly make suitable arrangements for your council.” The letter was received and its contents noted.
