THE CHURCH HABIT.
TELL-TALE STATISTICS. \ LONDON, Oct. 26. How many people in this country attend a. -religious service regularly and yet have ceased to believe in all that the Bible teaches? A questionnaire recently carried out by the Daily News shows that, among 14,043 people who sent in rep’ies, nearly three-quarters are church or chapel attenders. and believe in a personal immortality and a personal God —hut only 68 per cent, abcept the theory that Christ was divine; 63.8 per cent believe that the Bib’e was inspired; 53.3 per cent, subscribe to the Apostle’s Creed; and 38 neu cent, believe the Genesis story of the Creation. Some people mentioned in covering letters that, while disbelieving in the existence of God, they attended’ church as a matter of habit, or to avoid giving pain to their re'ations. The most striking figures in the list are those which summarise the replies to Question 6: “Do you believe in any form of Christianity?” To no other question wfi« there so large a number of affirmative answers, and so small a number of negative answers.
