DAIRY CONTROL

THE NEW SYSTEM. ACCEPTED BY MERCHANTS FIRST COMMITTEE MEETING The inivtation of the New Zealand Dairy Produce Board to the Tooley Street merchants —that they appoint a standing committee to confer with the hoard’s London Agency for the naming of ‘ ‘ starting prices” in negotiating sales of Dominion hutter and cheese —has heen accepted by the merchants, who have appointed their representatives. The first conference has heen held, and the latest quotations (probably founded on the ‘ ‘ starting prices” fixed at this initial meeting) show New Zealand hutter to have recovered a further step. Mr J. R. Corrigan, one of the Taranaki members of the Control Board, was to-day advised from Wellington that Mr W. Grounds (chairman of the board) had cabled from London to the effect that all the merchants handling New Zealand produce fell in with the suggestion of the board, and that they elected of their number Messrs Flint (head of the Mills firm), Ellison (Cooperative Marketing Association) and Robinson as permanent representatives to meet the Board Agency. The message added that the first meeting of the joint committee had been held, and had proved quite satisfactory. Latest London quotations for New Zealand produce were given as follows: Butter: 148 s to 150 s. Cheese: White 80s to 87s; coloured 85s to 86s.
