HAWERA BAPTISTS.
BUILDING PR 03PLOTS. A very pleasant social evening was held on Tuesday in the Scouts’ Hall, in connection with the Hawera Baptist Church building fund. The Rev. L. C. H. Barbour occupied the chair. The following contributed to a pleasing musical programme: Mrs. Strange, recitations; Airs. Tugwell. solo and encore; Miss W. Mills, .solo and encore ; Aliss M. Barnes, solo and encore ; Mr. Piper, solo and encore ; Air. Langslow, solo and encore; Mr. Barbour, solo; Mr. Glover, .solo. During the evening Air. F. W. Horner gave a report showing how those associated with the church here were responding to the appeal for funds, also what the Bantists throughout New Zealand were likelv to do. Tne whole scheme, a,s outlined by All*. Horner at the recent conference in Dunedin. was heartily, endorsed. Mr. Barbour also gave a very encouraging report from! carts of Canterbury, where he .was recently visiting in connection with the church building fund scheme. Air. Brough brieflv outlined the nature of a “fair,” which it is oronosed to hold early next year as a snecial local effort. Altogether the reports showed that the proisneots for the future were bright and that before long the Baptists can hope to have a church of their own, worthv of their cause anl the town.
