The first meeting of the newly appointed Guides Committee was held last night in the Mayor’s room. Those present were: Mesdames J. I. Gray (president), Fake, Badland, Wylds, Goldsmith, Peacock, McCready, aqd Foord.

The Girl Guides’ Captain (Mrs E. B. Foord) reported as follows: —Our local company of Guides has been working well during the past month, the Guides showing a keen in their various subjects. We have 20 Guides and 16 Brownies upon our roll. On Labour Day we were able to open our tennis season, although, owing to the inclemency of the weather, a large number of the girls had made other arrangements previously, and so were sorry to have to miss the first day’s games. However, we hope to get plenty of fun and exercise throughout the present season. On Monday, October 11, a meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Committee took place at New Plymouth, at which I was asked to be present to represent Eltham, as delegates were going from the adjacent, towns. It was decided that each district contribute £1 annually to New Plymouth anS New Plymouth £2 annually to support the -work and the expenses of the provincial secretary, as most of our orders have to go through her hands. Hence the extra expense. A monthly order is to be made up and he in New Plymouth by the 12th of each month. This is to minimise the provincial secretary’s work as much as possible. I shall be glad if the committee will ararnge examiners for the various proficiency badges, as the girls will soon be ready to pass the necessary tests. The report was received on the motion of Mesdames Badland and Goldsmith.

It was decided to ask the following to act as badge examiners for special classes: —

Eed Cross: Mrs J. I. E. Gray. Cooking: Mrs Peacock. Needlework: Mrs Fake. Laundry: Mrs Goldsmith. Housework: Mrs D. McCready. Knitting: Mrs S. Carson. Dancing: Mrs Wylds. On the motjon of Mesdames Fake and Peacock it was decided to ask Mrs de Launay to act as secretary to the committee.
