CANBERRA COMMISSION FIRM. THREAT TO ROAD-MA.KING. \ CANBERRA, Oct. 19. Owing to the demands which the A.W.U. has made that a certain ganger be not employed in the territory by the Federal Capital Commission, a stoppage of the whole of the road construction work is threatened. Recently the ganger dismissed a man for alleged slacking and the men engaged at the road metal quarry immediately ceased work. The Federal Capital Commission reinstated the man in another gang on the ground that he had not received a warning. The A.W.U. meeting called upon the commission not to employ the ganger, f and ordered its members not to work " under him. Three gangs over, which the ganger has been placed downed tools yesterday, and it is considered likely that the whole of the road construction employees will cease work. The Federal Capital Commission is taking a serious view of the attitude of the union, which is claimed to be for straight-out job control, and is determined to place this ganger in charg’fe of every road gang in succession.
