NEW CABLE RATES.

BUSINESS MEN ALARMED. i (BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. Considerable alarm is felt by the Association of British Manufacturers and Agents over the new telegraph regulations dealing with deferred rate messages. These are largely used by commercial men, and it is considered that the alteration will have the effect of reducing the number sent, and will also entail a large amount of work in coding and decoding if they have to be sent at full'rates. At a meeting of the council to-day, an example was given where a message sent on Saturday cost 11s 4d, and today would cost £2 2s 9d. The council protested strongly against the regulation as a retrograde step, particularly at a time when it was understood that business in cables was distinctly profitable to the department.
