HAWERA POULTRY SOCIETY.
SOUND .POSITION SHOWN. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Hauer a Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Society uas held in the Winter Show Build’ ings last evening, Mr. J. B. Wilson (retiring president) presiding over an attendance ox eleven members. The balance-sheet, details of which were published in the Star on Saturday, was reviewed by the president, who said lie thought all members woulci agree that the year had been a satisfactory one and had shown a marked improvement 'on the previous season. Receipts from members’ subscriptions amounted to £lO los, the number ol members being 43. It was highly creditable that the society had been able to expend the sum of £l7 10s on trophies for competitions, and, after meeting all other expenses, show a cash credit balance of £l9 12s od. He pointed out that the society had seven cups to a total value of £2B Bs, and four rose bowls to the value of £l2 12s. These trophies, added to the cash in hand, biought the assets to £6O 12s od. The success achieved was largely due to the enthusiastic co-operation given by members, and he hoped the same spirit would characterise future operations. Tribute to the work of the president i was paid by the secretary (Mr. G. H. - Kent), who also expressed approval of - the manner in which all had • assisted in forwarding the aims of the r society Mr. Kent further expressed appreciation of the help given by the South Taranaki Winter Show committee. On the motion of Mr. G. L. Gaylard, seconded by Mr. W. E. Watson, the balance-sheet was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted, as follows: Patron, Mr H. G. Dickie. M.P. ; president, Mr J. B. Wilson (reelected) ; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr A. V. Hopkins; vice-presidents, Messrs D. Stewart and W. A. Spragg (re-elected), B. C. Bennett, C. H. Barker and F. Wasley; committee, Messrs G. W. Clark, J. S. Hannah, W. Anderson, G. !L. Gaylard, C. H. Barker, H. Bryant and W. E. Watson ; trustee, Mr G. H. Kent ; auditor, Mr W. A. Spragg (re-elected). New members elected were: Messrs H. Knightsbndge and A. Watson. An enthusiastic vote of thanks was accorded the retiring secretary (Mr G. H. Kent) in appreciation of the manner in which he had carried out the duties of the office for a period of three years. PROPOSED SHIELDS. A former proposed that two shields, one. for competition in light and one in heavy breeds, l>e provided bv the society was considered, and the secretary and president were requested to make inquiries as to cost. Offers of £1 Is each, received from Messrs W. E. Watson and A. E. Gardener, were accepted, votes of thanks to the donors being carried by acclamation. GENERAL. During a discussion concerning the forthcoming competitions, it was pointed out that last- season entries in the breeding pen class did not count for the points prize. A motion proposed by Mr Gaylard, proposing that ail prize-winning entries count for the points prize, was negatived. and on the motion of Mr Hopkins it was decided that entries in breeding pens and selling classes would not count for the points prize. Conditions governing the breeding classes' were amended so as to provide for the entry of one male and two females, instead of one male and three females as previously. Mr G. L. Gaylard, suoported by Mr A. IC. Gardener, urged that the society affiliate with the North Island Society in order to give the Hawera Society a voice in the business affairs of the parent body. The chairman explained that negotiations with the North Island Society, as they affected the Hawera Society, were at present carried out bv the Winter Show Committee, and on his suggestion it was decided to approach the committee before taking definite action in the matter.
