CHORAL MUSIC.
“OBERiOiN” NEXT MONDAY
Rarely has there been such interest taken as is the case with the coining (performance at Hiawem of the .Opera “Otberon” (Weber), by a combined choir land orchestra, under the aegis of the Mate Choir and under the conduotorsiliip of Mr. H. O. A. Fox. It is an lambitious effort on the part of iihe society, but everyone concerned ihas taken a keen interest and the indications are for a successful performance. . Last night the first combined rehearsal was held, with full orcfhestra and chorus, all soloists but the principal tenor amdi all! the librettists. The conductor was very pleased with the work done. The orchestra played better than it had previously done; the choral effects were very good, and the soloists were in capital form, while the addition of the libretto parrs gave a, continuity to the performance which 'made the production more interesting. It promises well, indeed, for the performance on Monday next in the Opera House. The leading tenor will be Mr. A. H. Ripley, of Auckland, wlio is weliknown to Hawera audiences, and. is alwajrs popular. He takes the part of Sir Huon, the boro of the Opera. Pile lady soloists will be : Rezia, Mrs M. J. Goodison; Fatima, Miss E. Goodson ; Puck, Mrs. T. .Sunderland: Mermain, Misis \V. Mills; the other male soloists are: Oiberon. Mr. C. Lamb, and Sheraisiiwin, Mr. H. Aioikroyd.
