ATHLETICS.
HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. ANNUAL, STEEPLECHASE EVENTS. CONTESTS ON WEDNESDAY. ! The Hawcra High School’s annual steeplechases will be run on Wednesday afternoon, starting at 2 o’clock. About 100 boys have entered for the two races, and, as the events count in the school championships, the boys have been training hard. Added interest arises from the fact that the Old Boys’ Association has offered a gold medal for the boy making the fastest time.
Starting from the cannon in King Edward Park, the senior course leads across the school ground into Camberwell Road, thenee across the show grounds to the Waihi Road, then into Maire Street. Entering (Mr Hunter’s property it leads across and along the south side of the swamp. Passing through a hedge it winds round and across another swamp, whence it swerves back across the dam and into Maire Street. Thenee it extends along Waihi Road, High Street and finishes at the cannon in the Park. It is'esti’mated that the course is from 3J to 4 miles.
The junior 'course partially follows athe same route as the senior, but is about 2 miles only. The handicaps are:— SENIORS.
