Recent awards of wage hoards in the clothing confectionery, sweets, and biscuit industries, raising the wages all round and in some cases more than 100 per tent, have caused much perturbation among manufacturers esspecially as they are accompanied by more stringent regulations and conditions of employment The secretary of the Federated Chamber of Industries states that it the principles laid down are carried out, they will sound the death-knell ot industrial development.
