IS ITALY PREPARING? DESIGNS AGAINST TURKEY. OH CABLE— PBESS ASSOCIATION—OOP YBtGHI. LONDON, Oct. 9 “Is Italy preparing for a war?” asks the Daily Express. Signor Mussolini’s attempts to revive the warlike spirit in his people have occasioned the comment. it is believed that plans aimed against Turkey ai’e being prepared with the objective "of securing a sphere of influence on the Adalian coast, which was promised to Italy in 1915 by the secret Treaty of London, but which Italy failed to obtain when M. Venizelos (Greece) rose to an ascendancy at, Versailles and Signor Orlando withdrew at the critical moment. The Turks maintain four army corps in the threatened area. Greece is committed to active eo-operation, while it is understood that Roumania aud Jugoslavia have promised to remain neutral. Details of the secret treaty were revealed by the Bolsheviks after the revolution in 1917. The signatories were Russia. France, Britain and Italy. THE BLACK SHIRTS. MUSSOLINI ASSUMES COMMAND. ROME, Oct. 9. Signor Mussolini addressed a gathering of Fascists, explaining why ha assumed command of the Black Shirts. “I am assuming direct command of the militia. Yon assuredly understand the import of this gesture. - The watchword must be, obedience, absolute devotion, and 1 readiness to defend the present regime. Raise your flags and rifles and erv ‘Vive Fascisimo.’ ” On the occasion of the taking over oil the militia. Signor Mussolini sent a message to the King assuring his Majesty of the Black Shirts’ loyalty, that they were true as steel and were dedicating themselves anew to his service.
