The Supreme Court is hearing the impeachment of the ex-Prime Minister, Mr. Beige, and six members of bis Cabinet, Messrs Michelet, Weiring Klingentserg, Hudinbee, Middlethon, and v'enger, for alleged violation of the constitution in connection with supporting the Norwegian Bank of Commerce, which got into'difficulties alter the war crisis. The Government secretly deposited twenty-five million kroner to tide over the situation when the bank became, further embara-ssed by the Government not disclosing the deposit, tout. askin/g Parliament to guarantee fifteen million kroner. Parliament -agreed to this. The bank is now in liquidation. The Berge Ministry .subsequently foil a.nd the public, on learning the facts, demanded their ini-peach-'mcnt. Mr. s upporteirs contend 'that secrecy was essential to avoid .a ipanic, but their opponents ias>sert that Parliament would not have granted the guarantee if it had known the .facts and that Cabinet support prolonged a hopeless struggle and enabled the big depositees, to save their money.
