“GRAVE CONCERN.”

OVER-ADVANCED BUTTER. * CHARGES AND RECLAMATIONS. The following statement concerning reclamations (arising out of 'butter advances exceeding realised values) is. published 'by the .secretary of the New •Zealand Dairy Produce Board : The secretary of the hoard estates: —_ ■From inquiries received it is evident a number of dairy companies are grave-1 ly concerned las ,to the position which lias arisen in connection with the past season’s consignments. It is quite certain that many companies have been withholding their produce from sale in Great Britain, and heavy storage and •interest charges have been incurred. In•face of the present market heavy reclamation's will have to be met by these companies, as only those who have had a very conservative advance can escape those repayments. Should dairy companies so desire, the board is willing to recognise and handle orders froin dairy companies against either their advance or further payments. To illustrate : Suppose the Neversueh Dairy Company has debit balances on last season’s consignments to the extent of £2OOO, and wishes to spread ' ■repayment, say, over five months. If ■the dairy company will give the board an order to pay, from advances rjjad© against shipments of new season’s produce. the sum of £4OO per month to the London merchant to whom the reclamation is owing, the board can arrange to do this; or ,if it preferred, : the board can accept such orders'! against further payments which may, become due to the dairy company on the present season’s produce as the season advances. It should be pointed out, however, that this latter method ■ would considerably delay the repayment of reclamations, and unless the market becomes more the further payments might not be of sufficient magnitude to meet the past season’s deficits.
