FATHER’S SACRIFICE
INCIDENT AT A FIRE.
HE WARNED EMPLOYEES DIED WHILE RESCUING FAMILY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 9.55 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Oct. 3. An incident of heroic .self-sacrifice occurred in connection with the fire in a basket works at -Borough Road, London. William Booke, whose family were trapped on the upper floor, .after warning other employees, made his way up the stair® through the flames and rescued two of his young children, forbidding another employee :to follow him, .saying that the fire was too fierce for •anyone else to face. He again mounted the blazing staircase. Firemen, with their uniform® soaked in water, a.ttempted t-a use the fire escapes, but driven back badly .scorched. When the fire had burned out, the body of Brooke, almost incinerated, with those of his wife and baby, who had been suffocated, were found together.—Sydney Sun Gable.
