ENTERTAINMENTS.

“THE BEILILE O'F NEW YORK

The production of the Stratford Operatic Society, “The Belle of New York,”, to be produced at the Opera House, Haiwera, on Monday and 'Tuesday next, bids fair to repeat here the .phenomenal success ii> has achieved throughout Taranaki. At every presentation it lias created scenes of enthusiasm. rarely witnessed with amateur productions. At Eltham on Friday evening, at a> crowded, theatre, the performers were cheered again and again, after the curtain had been raised at least a dozen times, calls for the producers, the conductors, and pianist came from all over the auditorium, a decided compliment for the visitors. At New Plymouth, both on Monday and Tuesday, despite the fact that the management refused to allow any encores, so intrigued was the audience with the .continuity of the presentation that it simply refused to allow the performers to- proceed. -Galls and repeated calls for the belle were made holding up the performance for at least

five - minutes. For the final presentation of “The Belle of New, York’ at Stratford next Wednesday, not a seat is available. A request has come from Efcthani for a repeated performance. The society's triumphant tour has been most marked, and it proves conclusively that the “Belle of New_ York, so ambitious a production professionals, has more than justified its presentation by the Stratford amateurs. For the Hawera- production applications have heeii mailed to Stratford for reservations from all along the coast.
