“THE WINDING STAIR.”
There is action enough for several ordinary screen dramas in “The Winding Stair,” a new Fox production, adapted from the novel by A. EL W. iyiason, which will have its last local showing at the Opera House to-night. However, “The Winding Stair” is not an ordinary screen drama. The scenes, laid in Morocco, are beautiful and turesque iand the story is one of the gripping sort. Edmund Lowe and ■1 Alma Rubens have the leading roles and the supporting cast includes some of the best-known names in screenland. Among them are Chester Conklin, Emily Fitzroy, Warner Oland, Mahlon Hamilton, and Frank Leigh. Supporting this picture is episode one of the chapter play “The Scarlet Streak.” MURIEL STARR. THE CELEBRATED EMOTIONAL ACTRESS. Miss Muriel Starr will bo .seen at the Opera House to-morrow (Friday) night in the powerful and gripping drama “The House of Glass,” in which •she enacts the trying role of Margaret Case, a* young girl, whose experiences in life are of the most difficult, nature, because of her early association with an’ unknown crook, whose arrest for burglary also leads to her imprisonment. The play abounds with most exciting and enthralling incidents, which will afford theatre-goers an opportunity of seeing for themselves what an exceptionally fine company of artists Miss Starr has surrounded herself with. At the head of the company is Mr Harvey Adams, a sterling English actor, who has been playing under the J. C. Williamson Ltd. banner for the last two years, and he.will he seen as Hugh McClellan, the genial friend of the family, who takes up the cudgels and fights the fate which threatens to envelop his friends. Another member of the company is Mi* Kenneth Brampton, whose name is famiUar to Australian theatregoers. He is also a fine actor, and is said to he excellent as Harvey Lake. The box plan is now open at Miss Brake’s, where ft heavy booking has already taken place, showing every indication of a bumper house being .present.
