SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28. A message from Vera Cruz (iMexieo) states that the city was swept by the most devastating hurricane since 1888. Several ships were sunk. The Ward liner San Juan, was partially wrecked. Heavy seas flooded the piers and drove out those living in the neighbourhood. The hurricane blew for .several hours and then swept overland. The streets .are littered with fallen trees. So far few casualties have been reported. GALVESTON (Texas), Sept. 28.

Some loss of life, and damage estimated at 2,500,000 dollars, was caused by the hurricane at Vera Cruz. Advices received here state that many small craft have been sunk in the harbour and many houses blown down.
