TARANAKI DAIRY FEDERATION

EXECUTIVE MEETING

At a meeting of the executive of the Federation, of Taranaki Daily Companies, held at Hawera on Saturday, there were .present: Messrs T. A. Wink (chairman), H. Taylor, F. Parsons, J. B. Murdoch, A. C. Pease, J. R. Corrigan, H. D. Forsyth, G. H. Buckeridge, A. Lees, P. 0. VeAle, dairy scientist, and' G. A. Duncan, secretary. On behalf of the federation, the chairman extended congratulations to Mr Corrigan on his election to the Daily Control Board as the representative of Ward 5. A report dealing with the work of the laboratory was given by the, scientist, the meeting expressing its approval. A letter was received from the New Zealand Dairy Factory Managers’ Association, asking if the federation would take action with regard to tho* apprenticeship at factories of youths from school w"ho' have taken a course of dairy science as outlined by Mr A. Gray, headmaster of the Hawera High School.. —The meeting considered that certain difficulties could be overcome, and it was decided to give the federation’s. support to tho scheme. It, was also resolved to secure recognition of dairy science as a subject for m a tricul a.ti on ex am in at ion. The question of the standardisation of milk for cheese manufacture formed the subject of a. letter received from the South Auckland Dairy Association, the federation being invited to take the matter up with the association. —The opinion of the executive witsi to the effect that the question of any interference with natural milk for clieesemnking must he approached, cautiously, and it was decided to reply giving the federation’s opinions, end also uni indication of thr, hearing on the .subject of the investigations being carried out with milk from three herds.

Support was accorded the proposal of the association to endeavour to have wholesale prices for manures made available to dairy companies.
