Mr. T. S. Goldsmith, formerly of Hawera, now manager of the Bank ot New Zealand in Fending, has been on a visit to friends in town.

Colonel Carmichael, commander oi the central division of the Salvation Army, with headquarters in Palmerston* North, passed through Hawera this mbrning after conducting the week-end meetings in Waitara. At Saturdfty’is meeting of the general committee of the general committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association, it was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr J. E. Meuli, of Okaiawa concerning his present indisposition, and expressing wishes for his speedy recovery. ' •

Tih© Hawera station platform, was the scene of much enthusiasm this morning, when l 'the final curtain was rung down upon “A Rlanaway Girl.” Mrs. Hulme, who produced the musical comedy, took her - departure, by the mail train for Christchurch. The principal officers and members of the society, and many others assembled to say good-bye to the lady to whom, was due so much of the success of the show. The good wishes and heartiness^ of the farewell was another termination of the good feeling which Mrs. Hulme inspired. ••A , s the train pulled out, Flipper paid ai final tribute to the lady, and the assembled company gave three cheers. Mrs. Hulme asked that her thanks be expressed to the many people who made her work in Hawera pleasant and successful, and her fare'well to friends whom she had not been able to see in person.
