WHEAT FROM CANADA.
A REDUCED PRICE
(By Telegraph.—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 22
Under the terms of the permit system, enabling fowl wheat to be imported duty free, a number- of New Zealand firms have accepted offers for supplies of Canadian wheat of second or lower grades, which will commence to arrive in New Zealand about the end of October, though the bulk of the shipment will come' lat a later date. Fowl., wheat is .selling in Wellington at 8s 3d per bushel, but the arrival of Canadian supplies will bring about a reduction, as it has been quoted at £l2- 16s. per ton, equivalent to 6s lid per bu.shel landed on the wharf, primage paid. An official circular to the trade states that the importation of wheat for fowl feed free of duty, will cease on February 28, 1027. Any permits issued for importation during the months of January -and February will, states the circular, be strictly limited to current requirements. Care is being taken to prevent a carry-over of wheat and the merchants are reported to be handling Canadian offers with caution, despite the .attractive price.
