For the Maoris, Falwasser and Bell scored tries in the first half of the match with the Alpes team, both being converted. In the second half Falwasser scored two, both being converted, and Bell one, which was not converted at the last minute. Disappointment at the Maori’s performance is reflected in criticism. Echo des Sports states that the Maoris did not rise to expectation. Their team work appeared to be somewhat elementary hut all possessed remarkable physical resources. L’Auto interviewed the referee, who said that the victory was solely due to the Maoris ’speed and superior wind. The Alpiners performed: remarkably well, considering their limited training. The paper added that the Maoris would certainly be beaten at Narbonne and in England. CANTERBURY TEAM. (by TELF.OUAPK PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 21.
