FORTY=HOUR WEEK.

AN APPLICATION REFUSED BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOC: ATION—COPYEIGHT Received 11.25 n.m. to-day. BRISBANE, Sept. 21.

The Beard of Trade' has refused the application of the building trades to grant them a. forty-hour week. The trades claimed that as they had already been working a. forty-four hours’ week when the hoars of other workers were reduced from forty-eight to fourty-four, they should have a corresponding reduction. The board stated that the legislature could not be assumed to have intended a general ail-round reduction, or it would have specially said so.
