GREAT SUCCESS PREDICTED. The first Royal Show to be held in Auckland is arousing keen interest, both ill- the city and! me rural districts. .Discussing matters relating to the show, Mr \v. W. Massey,, president of the Royal Show Committee, said! that i'u New Zealand to-day we bad stud and pedigree, stock that, could not be surpassed in any portion of the Empire, or in any part of the world. It was a significant fact that buyers from all parts of Australia, South America and other countries were continually visiting the Dominion with the object of purchasing live stock to export for the purposes of improving their own flocks and herds. This was a great compliment to New Zealand;, and showed that we had ii regressed: along the right lines. The maintenance of a high standard of quality and the general improvement of the live stock of the country was of vital importance, added Mr Massey. In recognition of this principle leading breeders- determined! to establish a Dominion show at which the stock exliibited would have -to be of the highest quality to secure an, award. With the approval of the King, the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand was formed.
The first Royal Show in 1924 was held at Palmerston North, and 1 was an unqualified! success. The 1925 Royal Show was allocated to Chrischurch, and was also most successful. The Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, with the backing of various organisations in the district, made application for the Royal Show of 1926 to be held here, and it was only after .strenuous efforts and claims that were advanced that the Royal Council .granted -its approval. The committee- that had been set- up had done magnificent work, and great progress had been made. “I desire at this stage to congratulate them for what they have already done,” said l Mr Massey. “Two new permanent buildings had already been erected at the Epsom Show Grounds, and provision ha-cl also been made in order to meet the increasing demands from exhibitoT-s. Several thousand schedules had been sent out. and large numbers of entry forms had been received. “Mr A. D. Stanley, the managing secretary, has just returned from a visit to Mn.na.watu and Taranaki,” continued All- Massey. “All along his journey he received! the most encouraging accounts from the various districts and splendid promises of exhibits, which- clearly indicates the active interest the breeders are taking in. the Auckland Royal Show. My society has co-operated with the Industrial Association in making the 1926 show period' a royal carnival week. The City Council has approved the making of a- grant,, and has- also promised to undertake the various street decorations.”
