A notable achievement in two-way, wireless communication from shin to shore has been accomplished by Mr. H. Longuehaye, wireless officer of the Aorangi, reports the Post’s Auckland correspondent. On two consecutive voyages Mr. Longuehaye has established communication with the Canadian Government station at Estevan, British Columbia, when the Aorangi was nearing Auckland. This is a distance of 6200 miles, and is believed to be a world’s record for two-way communication on the marine commercial wave lengths, which are not as effective in use over long distances, as the short waves used by amateur operators. According to a special message to the Christchurch Star, Mr Alec Graham 1 , of W'aiho, Westland, states that the terminal face of the Fran*? Jo,sef Glacier is showing a great advance, owing to tile bigger volume of ice now present. It is practically ah' ice-wave that i,s coming down. There was a. similar state of thi nigs in 1.909, when the face of the glacier made its maximum advance. From 1909 till 1923 the face oif the glacier receded about 14 chains, but it has now begun again to advance, and, judging by the volume of the ice stream • nt Cape Defiance, Mr Graham thinks that probably it will keep on advancing for’ another 10 years, though it' is impossible to say if it will advance as far as it did in 1909UOSf’T MISS BTTCKREI.Ii ’S. .
