PARK CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general l meeting of the King Edward Park Tennis Club was held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. Mr L. Billows presided over a large attendance of members. REPORT.

In submitting the annual report for last season, the committee, congratulated the club on the year’s sport. Financially the club was in a very sound condition, the assets being £ll7 12s 8d and the liabilities nil. The committee had exercised all care with the expenditure. A donation of £2 2s had been made to the Soldeirs’ Club and a small one to the groundsman at the park. The membership had declined. There being no competitions last year, the committee arranged several xnatch-es with, ot-lier cluibs. The A. teami "played five matches and! won two. , The B team played the same number and! won one. The season was opened with a Yankee tournament. The net proceedls (10s) were donated to the sports queen committee. During the year Air Billows was appointed captain in place of Air R.udge, resigned, and Messrs Petersen, Kirkpatrick and Kururangi were elected to the committee in place of Alessrs \ Kirk, Ebhett and Brown. The committee also made small presentations' to‘Messrs F. Grant and E. Kirk, who .left the town, in apprecaition of the good work done by them for the club. The club captain presented silver buttons for competition among the ladies and gentlemen. The committee appointed for the purpose had been unable to procure the erection of a pavilion. The annual social was held in the 'Savoy tea rooms, but the members did not support it. The report was adopted.

FINANCE

The balance-sheet showed receipts £lB2 15s 10d and disbursements totalling £BO 3s 2d, leaving a. credit balance of £lO2 12s Bd. - ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

Reid 1 ; men’s committee, Alessrs AV. Newton. H. AA’infield, R. Thompson, T. Ivururangi, J. Petersen. J. Crutch.

GENERAL

The following new members were elected: Messrs F. Champion, H. Rawcliffe, T. McCarten, F. H. Bernard, AA r . S. Snow sill, Freeman, AVilson. A. Hammond, Solomon, Old, Saunders, Andrews. Nyiberg. and 1 the Alisses H. Foster, Conway, C. Douglas and P. Moss.

It was resolved to ask the Borough Council to put the fences in order, in accordance with a former agreement with the club. Attention was drawn to the fact that cricket players practiced, close to the Tennis Cl'uh’s fence .and! used the wire netting as a hack-stop. It was resolved to interview the club and) endeavour to arrange that practice he held at a safe distance. Am honorarium of £5 5s was voted to the i secretary for his services during the past year. THE PAVILION. Last season the energetic spirits amongst, the members put in train a movement to secure a pavilion 1 for the club, and out of members’ subscriptions a sum of over £IOO hast now been secured. Although they spared no effort in furthering the object aimed at, they

were compelled to acknowledge the: time was not opportune, and the matter was held over until this season. Now the feeling is still stronger that the erection should be. proceeded with, and 1 it is considered that no time should 1 be lost. The value of the home for the club can hardly be stressed too much. It as hoped that every member will rally round and take a part in furthering any scheme put forward by the committee. The successful prosecution of the object desired is quite: feasible if all put their shoulders to the wheel.

U.S. NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
