MANAIA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The young ladies of St. Cuthbert’.* Guild gave an evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall last Monday night. There was a very good attendance. Vocal items were given by Miss Stevenson, a recitation by Mr J. Forrester, a dialogue fty Misses Myra' Hausen and Madge Julian, and these were all .greatly appreciated. Games and dancing filled in the evening. Music was supplied by Messrs 0. Abbott and D. Gr.iy, also by Miss Myra Hansen and P. Mullins. A dainty supper was .provided by the Young Ladies' - Guild. The mothers of the Wamate fourth football team intend giving a social evening to the boys in the Manaia Town Hall on Friday, September 15. The many friends of Mr T. Hair, of Manaia, will regret ,to hear that he is seriously ill and was admitted to the ITawera Hospital on Thursday. GOLF.

On Wednesday afternoon a mixed foursome was played on the local links for the president’s trojfiiy. After _ a very interesting contest, Mrs A. Mitchell and Mr O. Davies, with a net score of 80, were declared the winners.

Other good cards were Miss Clngue and Mr M. Byan 83, Miss Smith and Dr. Davies 83. Miss Mitchell and Mr L. Young 84, Mrs McLeod and Mr A. Hannah 85, Miss Byan and Mr Watts BG.

Afternoon tea was provided hv the ladies and was much appreciated.
