When Thoiiuis €eert.sou uti'd William; Samson set out in a fishing launch from Tangimoana, laibout .a mile from the month of the Raugitikei River, early this morning there was little wind and the sea , was calm. However it came sip rough and at 10.30. the launch "was seen vainly trying to .cross the- Rongitikei j bar. It i.s presumed the'men.met with engine trouble, as they were’next seen under .sail two hours later when the launch was seen.‘by employees of the Forestry Department working: in the vicinity of the beacli. Later the body of Geertson was Found on ‘the beach, two land a. half miles from."the'Rangitikei, but neither the launch nor Samson has been, .seen, although.fish boxes from the vessel were washed."tip late tonight. Geertson was a widower ."with a,' son aged To. 'a nd,for the past six years bad followed the occupation of. a:fisherman. He lived at Tangimoana and was tlie owner of the launch, which i.s said to have been well equipped and seaworthy. Samson, as for is known, was a single man, about 40 years of age, who. was a, chaff-cutting contractor in the Feilding and Sa.ndon districts.
