Competition was very keen, and there was a, rise with I the unsatisfied demand, values improving as the sale advanced, especially for I cow -and heifer beef. Cattle. —Heavy prime sold from £l4 to £ls 15s, lighter prime £l2 to £l3 I 17s 6d, light prime £lO to £ll 17s 6d, I extra heavy prime young, .cow®, and beifers £l2 to £l3 3® 6d, heavy prime £lO to £ll 17s 6d, lighter £8 to £9 16s fid, light cows. £6 to £7 17s 6d. I Nine- cows and heifers averaged £ll Ss fid. Sheep. —Extra, heavy prime withers made 36s to 37s 6d,. heavy prime 34s to 35s 9d, medium prime 32s to 33s 9d, light prime 29. s to 31s 9d, small and unfinished £1 5s to £1 8s- 9d, heavy prime ewes £1 6s to £1 7s 6d, medium prime £1 3s to £1 4s 9d, .light prime £1 to £1 2s- fid, prime hoggets £1 3s to £1 6s 6d, shorn ewes 18s 9d Jo 19s 2d. CHRISTCH.UROH, Sept. 1. The entries at to-day’s market were smaller in all .sections, except store sheep, and the result was a slight improvement in the fat stock sections. Fat Sheep.—An improved sale for prime wethers, but no change for other classes. Extra prime wethers sold up to 39s_ Id, prime wether.s 33s to 365, medium wethers 29s 6d to 32s 6d, light wethers 25s 6d to- 28s 6d, extra prime ewes to 32s lOd, prime- ewes 25s fid to 29s fid, medium ewes 22s 9d to 255, light ewes 19s 6d to 22s 6d, aged ewes 17s to 19s, prime hoggets 30s to 34s 4d, medium hoggets 26s 6dl to 29s 6d. Fat Cattle —There was an improvement of 20s per head for medium steer and heifer beef. Other classes improved only slightly. DUNEDIN, Sep. 1. Fat Sheep.—The best rates of last week’s sale were realised for heavy sheep, and medium sorts improved probably Is per head. Specially heavy wethers made 42s to. 475, heavy prime 27s to 39s 6d, medium 30s 6d to 34s 6d, unfinished 28s 3d, extra prime ewes 32s to 355, medium 25s 3d to. 27s 9d, lighter 20s to 255. Best fat hoggets made from: 26s to 28s, and medium from 24s to 25s Gd. Prime wether mutton made 6Jd to 63d per lb, extra heavy fid, prime ewes s*-d, light and aged 4-Jcl, -prime hoggets Sd to 9d, light lambs 91 d. Fat Cattle,—Prime- bullocks- realised £ls 5s to £l6 ss. medium £l3 to. £l4 10s, prime heifers £9 10s to £lO- 7s 6d, lighter £6 5s to £8 10s, prime cowsi £9 to £ll, lighter £7 5s to- £8 ss. Extra heavy bullock beef was worth 34s per 1001 b, prime light 35s to 365, prime- - heifer 325, light heifer and . cow 22s to 30s.
