ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT

“COMBAT,” A VIRILE PLAY.

All tlie poetry and drama -of tlie lumber; camp—in other words all the softness ami all the hardness of .the lumberjack—have been put in to “Combat,” the Universal-Jewel production, starring' House Peters, which opens a season of two nights, and a matinee at the Opera House this evening. .Moments range from fierce combat, from hate* to rivalry in affairs of love both carried on, by the way, in the lumber jack’s own rugged way. House Peters is the centre of all action He plays a roughneck role, a sort o, character in which he stands alone above all other screen artists., He is pre-eminently fitted, for. this, sort o, characterisation/ with his immense well-formed! body, his handsome features. and hi® charming personality. Another person well east as a .contrast to Peters is Wanda, Hawley, the , small leading lady whose delicate wistfulness is opposed to Peter’s rugged strength. One of the most, spectacular forest nres ever screened! occupies the most prominent berth* of being, the. climax of the picture. This sequence is well done and is jammed with even, more thrills than tiie earlier part- of the picture which seems to be as exciting as mortal man can make it. Supports include the serial “Perils of the Wild.”
