FOOTBALL TEAM CONGRATULATED.

A largely attended meeting of the Waimate Football Club, including citizens, was held last evening in the Town Hall. Mr James Hickey presided. ' The meeting was held for the purpose of congratulating the fourth grade team 1 on winning the Taranaki Rugby championship, also their coaches (Messrs A. McCracken and W. Bourke) for their splendid assistance to the team. The* chairman thought the best way to show appreciation • was- -to hold; a social evening to the hoys. Mr J. E. Ward moved that *a social evening be held, and that the parents of the players* be invited to he present, also the ‘officials of' the Taranaki Rugby Union .and some of 'the old South Taranaki Rugby players. Mr L. Hughes seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. It was resolved, on the motion o,f Messrs J. E. Ward 1 and L. Hughes, that the function be held ore Wednesday. September 8, and the charge he 3s for admission. ** A ladies’ committee is to be formed, this matter being left in the hands of the secretary and chairman. Mir J. E. Ward is* to arrange the musical programme. The following were elected a catering committee: Messrs E. Longj W. Bourke and the secretary. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs E. Massey and L. Hughes, that a, memento be presented to each player of the Waimate team. Messrs W. Bourke and A. McCr,a|ckem heartily thanked the. chairman and other speakers for their complimentary expressions in connection with them as coaches of the team.
