“BUY BRITISH GOODS”
PROPAGANDA AT HOME.
By the. last English mail, Mr Hooker, of ilawcra, received a letter from tlie Federation of British Industries, whose headquarters are in Sheffield, with, reference to itS-' “Buy British Goods” campaign. That the work, of the federation is both practical and interesting is evident from the. copy of a. poster received, as follows:
BUY BRITISH GOODS AND PRODUCE.
Our overseas possessions are llie best, customers for the manufactured goods of the United Kingdom. Their capacity to buy from us depends upon their capacity to sell tlfeir own produce. It is therefore to your own advantage to support the Dominions and Colonies and, where agricultural produce of the Old Country is not avaii- ' able, to insist on Empire supplies. Ask v-our retailers and KEEP ON ASKING for CEREALS. From .Canada, Australia and New Zealand. COFFEE. From India-, Kenya and the British West' Indies. DAIRY PRODUCE. From Canada. Australia, New Zealand, 'S'outh, Africa, Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State. FISH (Canned). From Canada, South Africa, and Newfoundland. FISH (Canned and botlted). TELL YOUR WIVES AND FAMILIES TO DO THE SAME.
At the same time DON’T FORGET the . many food and agricultural products of the Motherland —meat, bacon, butter, eggs, cheese, jams, sauces, etc., etc. If you cannot get supplies we will* do all that is possible to help.
The. federation has added a footnote to overseas Britons: — The manufacturers of Sheffield are actively engaged in propaganda of this nature on your behalf, and many hundreds of these posters 30 x 40 inches in size, are being displayed in the workshops and on the public hoardings in the locality. Will you, for them, insist on best branded British goods manufactured by the reputable Sheffield firms? Buy on the brand and obtain satisfaction. “This is just another evidence,” comments Mr. Hooker, “of the growth of the small seed! sown at Hawera in 1916. when this movement was instituted. Such work as the. federation, is carrying on is worthy of practical support. In fact, it is upon such, efforts that the stability of our Empire depends. ” ,
