SURPRISE FOR BOLSHEVISTS

La Liberte publishes a new account of the- opening: by the Soviet Government some time a*go of the to-mbsijof the Czar’-s .situated in the fortress of Peter and Paul. Their object was solely to rob: the graves of the jewels and other .precious objects which were buried with the dead rulers. After having opened the graves of Peter the Great aria Catherine, the fomb-btreqkers turned to the- tomb of Alexander the Great. To their utter astonishment, they found that it was empty. This would seem, to- confirm, a strange legend, writes the. P'aris correspondent of the. Morning -Post, which was told of this Czar, namely, that he was still living long after he- was officially dead. Alexandiia’is: death took place ir--1825, but .rumours- were soon heard that’the body of the C!za-r had not been in the coffin, but- that he wa.s still alive, and bad iretiredi to some, lonely spot to spend the rest of bis life in rest and, meditation.
AVhen a mysterious hermit died at Tomsk -many years later, without revealing his name or origin, it was -believed he may have been the Ozar. .The recent discovery of the Bolshevists would- seem to- confirm the old legend.
